Miss Puerto Rico Universe 2007 is.... Ingrid Rivera!!

The new Miss Puerto Rico Universe is Ingrid Marie Rivera, 24, (left). She represented the town of Dorado. Rivera was crowned Friday night at the Centro de Bellas Artes in Santurce. Her runner-up was (Cynthia Olavarria lookalike) Claudia Cruz Bosch of Santurce, the second runner-up was Kristina Ruisanchez of Trujillo Alto,the third runner-up was Maribel Montalvo of Utuado, the fourth runner-up was Amanda Diaz of Isabela and the fifth runner-up was Ivelisse del Valle of Bayamón who was chosen by Sprint text voters. Ingrid was also chosen as Miss Photogenic. In 2005, Rivera was crowned Miss World Puerto Rico and placed third in Miss World. Ingird is the third Puerto Rican beauty queen to have won both the national titles for Miss World and Miss Universe. Joyce Giraud was crowned Miss World Puerto Rico in 1994 and then Miss Puerto Rico Universe in 1998. Likewise, Sarybel Velilla was crowned Miss World Puerto Rico in 1996 and then Miss Puerto Rico Universe in 2000.

It would appear that it was not all smiles backstage. The Miss Puerto Rico Organization has revealed that Ingrid's gown and makeup were spiked with pepper spray . This caused her to break out into hives. The organization has sent the dress and maskeup to be analysed and are lauching an investigation to find the culprit responsible.

The story has generated lots of interest worldwide and Ingrid has appeared on the Ellen Degenerees Show , The Morning Show with Meredith Viera and on CNN with Don Lemon.

Canada wins Miss Earth

Miss Canada,Jessica Trisko is the new Miss Earth. Her runner-ups were Miss India, Pooja Chitgopekar (Miss Air), Miss Venezuela, Silvana Santaella (Miss Water) and Miss Spain, Ángela Gomez Duran (Miss Fire).

Completing the group of 16 semifinalist were contestants from Martinique, Nigeria, Romania, Czech Republic, South Africa, Lebanon, Sweden and the Dominican Republic. Trident Beauties Didnt cover Miss Earth this year but we will most definitley cover it next year.

Dominican Republic Wins Beach Beauty Competition

Ada Aimee of the Dominican Republic Fast Tracked her way into the finals of the Miss World Pageant. In second place was Yendi Phillips who is also from the Caribbean. The 3rd place finisher was the hometown girl Miss Pe0ples Republic of China. Mexico and Lithuania rounded out the top 5.

In total 4 girls from the Caribbean made the Top 21 of the Beach Beauty Competition. They were Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica and Dominican Republic.

Miss World Begins

Contestants have begun to arrive in Sanya China for the Miss World finals.

The Bahamas is "In it to win it!"

In the pageant world fans will sometimes say that "they hope a pageant contestant enjoys her holiday because she has little or no chance of placing". Anya Watkins is one contestant that this saying does not apply to. The Miss Bahamas Organization has been picking more competitive delegates each year and many pageant fans think that she could repeat the feat of Miss Bahamas 1992, Jody Weech ( she placed in the semifinals). Anya Watkins recently spent time in Puerto Rico where she received intensive training from Héctor Joaquín Colón González. Hector is part of the Critical Beauty team. He also trained Haydil Rivera, who represented Puerto Rico in the recent Miss International pageant and placed in the semifinals. Anyas chances of making the finals are definitely high and a victory from the Bahamas would not be a shocker.

The Dominican Republic wins Reina Hispanoamericana

Massiel Taveras of the Dominican Republic is the first winner of the Reina Hispanoamericana pageant. The 22 year old was also awarded the title of "Best Figure". Jane Borges of Brazil ( who was a finalist at Miss World last year) was elected the Virreina (Vice Queen). The first Runner up was María José Maldonado of Paraguay and the second runner-up was María Jesús Ruiz of Spain. Delegates from Colombia, Cuba, Uruguay and Venezuela rounded out the top 8.


The pageant was previously known as Reina Sudamericana but it changed this year so as to allow Caribbean countries and other latin nations.

Most Competitive group of Caribbean Delegates

New Photos of Valene Maharaj , Miss Trinidad and Tobago will be revealed this week. Stay tuned for more of her official photos. Also stay tuned for an Interview with Valene. The Caribbean is sending the most competitive group of contestants this year. Valene is currently the Trident Beauties favourite in the Caribbean Region.

We can also expect strong showing from Miss Bahamas, Miss Jamaica, Miss Dominican Republic and Miss Puerto Rico.

Priscila Perales wins Miss International

As expected Priscila Perales was crowned the 47th Miss International. 2 months ago we interviewed Prisicla ( she was the first contestant we interviewed that is not from the Caribbean). Click here to see the Interview.

She was crowned by outgoing Miss Internation, Daniela Di Giacomo of Venezuela.

First runner-up this year was Despoina Vlepaki from Greece, and second runner-up was Miss Belarus Yuliya Sindzeyeva.

Completing the top 15 semifinalists were the delegates from Chile, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Puerto Rico, Russia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Venezuela.

Haydil Rivera of Puerto Rico placed in the semifinals and Miss Aruba Jonella Oduber won a national costume award. Haydil Rivera is the only Caribbean contestant to place in a "Big 4" pageant this year.

Sharon Rolle heads off to Manila to represent Bahamas

Sharon Rolle of the Bahamas who was awarded the Beauty of the Caribbean title at
the Beauty of the World contest in China. She just left for Manila to take part
in the Miss Earth Contest.

3 Venezuelan Queens

Venezuela picked its three queens for the 2008 pageant season on the 13th of September. Dayana Mendoza, a 21-year-old model from the state of Amazonas (center) will compete at Miss Universe, Hannelys Quintero, a former Miss Teen Venezuela (pictured at right) will go to Miss World, and Dayana Colmenares,(left) will go to Miss International 2008. The first runner-up was Mónica B'Sereni (Miss Araguas) and the second runner-up was Alexandra Serrano (Miss Táchira).

Rounding out the top ten were Miss Barinas, Miranda, Sucre, Trujillo and Vargas.

The Show was marred by a a crazed fan who jumped on stage and removed Miss Cojedes crown.The incident was captured on film and can be viewed on youtube .

Miss Bahamas International

Melissa Key has been chosen as the new Miss Bahamas International. She will represent the Bahamas in the Miss International pageant during the month of October.

Miss Dorado is ...Ingrid Rivera!

Ingrid Rivera represented Puerto Rico at Miss World 2005 where she placed 3rd. She also received the title Miss World Caribbean. It has been confirmed that Ingrid is participating in this years Miss Puerto Rico Universe and she will represent Dorado. If Ingrid wins she will join Joyce Giraud, who won Miss Mundo PR in 1994 and Miss Puerto Rico Universe in 1998.

Miss Canada International 2007

Last month Trident Beauties reported that Alice Panikian would represent Canada at Miss International in October. However, due to educational commitments Alice will no longer be competing in the pageant. Justine Stewart, who competed in this years Miss Canada Universe pageant will be replacing her as Miss Canada International. Justine is a singer songwriter and she will represent Canada at Miss International 2007.

Miss Teen USA 2007

Miss Teen USA was was won by Hilary Carol Cruz of Louisville Colorado. She was crowned during a Live television Broadcast at the Pasadena Civic Centre. This was the last Live broadcast of Miss Teen USA and from next year it will be held at the same time as Miss USA but it will be untelevised.

Yendi Phillips is the new Miss Jamaica World. The 21 year old will represent Jamaica at this years Miss World pageant.

Miss Jamaica World takes place tommorow night at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston. The Pageant was initially scheduled for last Saturday but was postponed because of Hurrican Dean.

Miss Venezuela 2007

The Miss Venezuela official portraits are now online. Based on the photos Miranda, Tachira, Trujillo, Cojedes and Amazonas are the early favourites for the crown. Miranda (should be a sureshot for Miss Photogenic) or Tachira( monica spears lookalike) would make excellent Miss Universe contestants.

Rumors, Rumors, Rumors

In 2005 it as rumored that Cynthia Olavarria, Miss Puerto Rico Universe 2005 would be going to be Miss Earth however this as not true. In 2006 a rumour started on pageant message boards that Ingrid River was a contestant in Miss Puerto Rico Universe 2006. This year is also not free from runours. Gladira Robles represented Puerto Rico at Miss Tourism Queen International and placed as a semifinalist. This year a rumor started that she will be competing In Miss International. Trident Beauties contacted Gladira and she had the following statement to make- "Just yesterday, I was notified with the rumor that it was confirmed that I would participate, but it is just a rumor, and I'm sorry to say that it isn't true. In fact, nobody has even come to me about Miss International... I am deeply grateful for people holding me in such high esteem. For this reason, I may not be competing in Miss International, but you will definitely see me in a future pageant."

Miss Universe 2008 in Vietnam?

According to Vietnamnet.net Officials from the Miss Universe Organization have visited Vietnam as a potential hosts for Miss Universe 2008. Other prospective candidates include Japan, Spain and the United Arab Emirates. Paula Shugart the President of the Misss Universe Organization said that the winning country will be announced within the next two months.

Miss Thailand World 2007

Kanokkorn Jaicheun was crowned Miss Thailand World 2007 she will represent Thailand at this years Miss World Pageant in Sanya, China.

Miss Indonesia Universe 2008

Putri Raemawasti is the winner of the Miss Indonesia beauty pageant 2007. She was crowned by reigning Miss Universe Riyo Mori on August 3rd. 36 contestants competed for the title. Putri will represent Indonesia in the 2008 Miss Universe Pageant

Miss Earth Uk

The Miss Earth UK organization has crowned 4 ladies to represent the UK at Miss Earth. They are Clair Cooper - Miss Earth England (in picture), Sarah Fleming- Miss Earth Wales, Jenna Pollock - Miss Earth Scotland and Aine Gormley Miss Earth Northern Ireland. The Four ladies will fly to the Phillipines to compete at Miss Earth this October.

Rumors Confirmed!!!.

This years Miss International competition is looking like it will be a fight between the Beauty Powerhouses.Priscila Perales, Miss Mexico Universe 2006 and Alice Panikian , Miss Canada Universe 2006 will both be competing in Miss International. This site tends not to focus on Miss International as much as it does Miss Earth , Miss World and Miss Universe but the particiapation of Alice and Priscila is definitely a major reason for keeping our eyes on this pageant.

Miss Bahamas World 2007.

The new Miss Bahamas World has been selected. Anya Watkins defeated 14 other contestants to capture the title during a grand coronation show on July 22nd. She will compete in the Miss World pageant in Sanya, China on December 1st. Her court included, 1st runner-up, Camille Kenny and 2nd runner-up, Ciji Adderley. They will compete in Miss Tourism Queen Int'l. '08 and Miss Intercontinental 07 respectively.

Miss Dominican Republic World 2007.

The new Miss Dominican Republic World is Ada Aimee de la Cruz. Earlier this year she surprisingly was only a top 10 finalist in Miss Dominican Republic Universe. However, she made legions of internet fans happy wehn she won the right to represent her Country at Miss World this year. She follows in the footsteps of Claudia Cruz (MW 04 first runner-up) who won the Miss Dominican Republic World title after competing in Miss Dominican Republic Universe. The first Runner up was Carolyne Aquino.

Miss Hong Kong 2007

Kayi Cheung was elected the new Miss Hong Kong on the 21st of July. Grace Wong (L) was the first runner up and the second runner-up was Lorretta Chow. Rounding out the top 5 were Mandy Wong and Candice Chiu. The winner of the Miss Hong Kong pageant usually competes in Miss Chinese International while the first and Second runner- ups compete in Miss World and Miss International.

Miss Aruba 2007.

Carolina Raven's successor has been chosen. 19 year old, Tracey Nicolaas was chosen the new Miss Aruba on the 15th of July. She will represent Aruba at the 2008 Miss Universe pageant.
